Spring Time Stick Pin Swap

Here is my first stick pin for a swap. I have made several stick pin just not for a swap. I did this for the swap over at MorePaperthanShoes. The theme was Spring. We had to use the colors light green, light yellow, and white. The pin had to be two inches or longer. We also got to use bead caps. I used some silver ones.  Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day. Hugs to all

lace doily flower tutorial

These are some really easy and pretty lace doily flowers to make. Beginners can make them.

Here some close ups of two different flowers.

Here are the supplies.
Thread
Flowers centers of choice. Buttons, beads, old jewelry, small flowers
Pearl beads on a rope
Small crocheted lace doilies
Scissors
Hot glue and hot glue gun.
Bottle caps

I first tried it using the holders for cameo and decided I could use them for cameo's. Why cover them up. And Bottle caps work just great for this.

First you will gather a small knot from the center of the doily as shown in the photo below.
This is what will be glued into the bottle cap. It helps the flower looked more gathered when you turn it over. If that makes sense. Once you have gathered the center you will knot it closed with the thread. I would use white so it don't show threw.

You will then put some glue into the bottle cap and place the knot into it.  I quickly turned it over and adjusted the flower to my liking while the glue was still hot. Her is what the bottom of the flower will look like. The bottle cap also helps you glue the flower down on your project. Just refer to the two bottom photos.

Once your flower is glued into the bottle cap and you are content with the outcome. You will them hold the tip of the pearl string. Now you can use different size doilies. So here is where you will need to measure the pearl string after you make the flower as different size doilies will make different size flowers. I just hold the tip of the pearl string and then make a loop and hold it up against the flower to make sure the loop is not longer then the flower edge. Once I have decide the right size I then count how many pearl dots I will need for the flower I cut the pearl rope. You will need six of these loops.

Next you will glue and connect the loops and set aside. Once you have all six

You will then start to glue them to the center of the flower. Quick note.  Do not add a lot of glue to the center of the flower and then add your loops as the hot glue can make your loop come unglued. Just small amount at a time.

Once you have them all glued down. You can add more glue in a small amount to the center of the pearl loops and quickly glue you flower center of choice making sure your loops don't come unglued. And there you have a pretty lace doily flower. Hope you give this a try. Also try using different color pearls on a rope and different color lace doilies. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day. Hugs to all.

Spring showers bring May flowers! March Inspiration Layout for MPTS

Made this layout for the March Inspiration layout team... I used My Minds Eye papers. My bloom cricut cartridge to cut the bird cage. WOC small flowers. Glossy accents for the rain drops. Flat back pearls from Joann's.  Marvy Uchida butterfly punch. Also a Recollections punches. The requirements were to make a Spring layout. Using a catchy title, A place for photos, and a journal spot. I added a tag behind the large flower on the left side of the layout. I just pull out the butterfly and it is connected to the journal tag.

Thank you for stopping by and please leave a comment even just to say hi. Always love to hear from you.

MorePaperthanShoes projects

This is the collage I made for Becky at MorePaperthanShoes. We were teamed up and got to chat with our swap partner and find out a little of what they might like. The requirements were it had to be no bigger than an 8 1/2 by ll. It also was to be an inspirational collage. Whether we wrote them a message, a quote, poems, or saying. Had a lot of fun making this. Hope Becky enjoys it.

I made these tags for my sister to enter at morepaperthanshoes image tag swap. She has been so busy taking care of my other sister. Just wanted to do something nice for her. They have such wonderful ladies there and really fun swap. So come on over and join the team.

These are my image tags I sent in for the Feb 2012 image tag swap at morepaperthanshoes.

For the inspiration team we had to make a mini/layout about Why I love thee. It had to have a hidden spot for journaling or a photo. I chose to do a tri-fold card/mini album.

Here is what the mini looks like closed.

Here it is opened up. And the first photo of the mini is laying flat.

I hid a journal tag behind the middle photo of my grand baby. The other journal tag is laying on top of a hidden photo on the left front flap. It is held on my a magnet. I used the Martha Stewart heart border punch and then added small tags behind them. I made all the flowers with the exception of the small white and pink. I used pieces of wedding trim from a haul. Made the tree stick pins. I used pink and white paper doilies. I used different papers. The dragonflies are from my local dollar tree store. The pretty lace trim is from Wal-Mart. The pink bead spray is from a local thrift store haul. I hung a clear heart from a piece of ribbon as a dangle from the side. I looked for several different tutorial on how to make the card. I followed some of the measurements and added a few of my own. The directions are below. Please forgive my drawing. If you have any questions on how to follow this let me know. The sketch below is of the card/mini itself and some of the mats for photos. The sketch below that one is for the front and back mats.

Here is my collage from Becky. I so love this. My request was anything to do with a garden and and shabby chic. I so love the quote she put on here. This looks so pretty in my scrap space.

Here is the tag for the "love is in the air" tag swap at morepaperthanshoes Feb 2012 swap. We had to use a button, lace, and a flower. I added the lace to the back side. We also had to cover the front and back. We had to use black, cream, pink, red, or brown.  #6 tags. The challenge item was some kind of charm.

Victorian Fan

Thought I would share this. I got it at my local thrift store. It came in one piece. I am taking it apart and then scanning it so that it will be a sheet. And if you do want it send me an email and I will send it to you. Just continue to scroll down to see how to attach it. You will need to either print this on computer paper and then glue onto card stock. As the back is white anyway. I like the way it is glossy. So I put glossy modge podge on top of mine and let dry before I assembled it.

Pay close attention as to where to put the ribbon and tape. You will need a length of ribbon that measures 12 1/2 inches. On the back of the fan you will notice that the ribbon is held on by them circles they use to write a price on for say a yard sell. You can purchase these at your local thrift store. Or Wal-Mart. You can use scotch tape too. Just something that will keep the ribbon in place. And do this to the rest of the hearts.  You will want to lay the fan piece so they overlap the one before. And this is what it looks like compact. I think this makes a great additions to any shabby chic or Victorian style mini. Or as an embellishment for your room or other projects. Please check back in a few days for the scanned sheet.

I am going to just add the sheets to print I hope you can get them from here. If not just email me at virginiaabshire@yahoo.com and I can send them to you that way. Also you will need a long two piece brad. When you go to close the brad make sure you don't  close it tight. As that will stop th fan from closing and opening. And you will need a small piece of cording to hand from th bottom.

Hope you enjoy this.

Some thrift store finds.

I have been collecting a few things here and there from thrift stores and yard sells and so on. Here is a black pouch purse. It already had the bead dangles. I want to add something on the front and then hang in my room. I will post a picture when I get it done.

I have seen some ladies on YouTube alter a box and then add a small mini or a very large mini in the inside. Here is a link to one of the video. I want to give this a go and add photos of my grand babies.

Here is the inside. It is a very large box.

I ran into the thrift store to see if they had gotten anything new since I had stopped there yesterday. And look what I found. A really pretty dress form.

And only for $4.99.
